Even though this is our month to be out and proud, a new study was released from the Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that states gay, lesbian, bisexual, students are more likely to engage in "unhealthy risk behaviors" than heterosexual students. These behaviors include tobacco and alcohol use, sexual risk behaviors, suicidal behaviors, and violence.
"Much of what's ailing these students can be attributed to a lack of "safe and supportive environments," according to the CDC report, which mentioned a survey that found gay and lesbian students feel unsafe while at school."
Thanks CDC for getting the word out and reminding us we got a lot more work to do.
